Team Leaders x2 (Surrey Docks Watersports Centre)
You will provide day to day operational supervision of the centre, under the direction of the Operations / Customer Engagement Manager.
You will contribute to the development of centre programmes to maximise usage and income, and to achieve customer service delivery objectives, in accordance with policies and procedures.
Key Accountabilities:
- To take responsibility for centre operations on a shift rota basis, in the absence of the Operations / Customer Relations Manager ensuring the efficient and effective operation of the facility.
- To undertake fitness instruction, reception, pool supervision and /or membership sales according to the rota and work schedule.
- To undertake cash reconciliation and banking duties in accordance with financial policy and procedures
- To assist in the development and management of a well-balanced activity and event programme.
- Monitor the water quality, air and water temperature, plant, equipment and building services, ensuring compliance with agreed standards.
- Prepare reports on the centre’s operations, events and incidents when necessary and requested by the General/Pool Operations manager
- To ensure the safety and welfare of staff and users of the centre through the operation of all Health and Safety procedures and standards. Including:
- Awareness of all Health and Safety issues within the centre, constantly implementing and assessing practice and drawing attention to unsafe practices
- Executing risk assessments as part of the normal operating procedures
- Ensuring that appropriate health and safety notices are displayed, fire drills undertaken and emergency equipment regularly checked
- Regularly checking that building security and health and safety standards comply to agreed standards
- Monitoring pool water, air quality and temperatures and report defects as necessary
- Ensuring the safe storage of all chemicals and equipment to comply with COSHH regulations.
- To ensure that the centre is secure and maintained to the required standards of cleanliness and repair.
- Carry out and supervise cleaning tasks in accordance with centre cleaning schedules.
- Carry out and supervise contract cleaning checks
- Carrying out daily/weekly and monthly building checks and communicating with the Operations team and General Manager any relevant findings or necessary corrective action.
- Carrying out minor repairs and remedial work to equipment as and when necessary, undertaking regular inspections and reporting any faults or defects to the General / Pools Operations Manager.
- To assist in the effective operations of the activity programme by coaching / teaching, where appropriate.
- To establish and maintain good relationships with the general public, ensuring that an appropriate ambience is maintained in the facility making customers feel welcomed and valued.
- To co ordinate the efficient and effective deployment of the team, to meet the financial and operational demands of the centre.
- Undertaking relevant project work appropriate to the position as directed by the Manager.
Knowledge & Specific Requirements:
- RLSS Pool Lifeguard Award, or ability to achieve the qualification within 3 months
- First Aid at Work Certificate, or ability to achieve the qualification within 3 months
- Manager or supervisor experience in hospitality or service industry
- Understanding of membership management and retention systems
- Experience of managing a team including training, development, appraisals, conduct management and motivating staff
- Understanding of and commitment to Equal Opportunities and managing diversity
- Can demonstrate success in meeting financial targets
- Experience in quality systems, exceeding customer expectation and health and safety
- Knowledge of general operations management
- Knowledge of premises and equipment management, including health and safety and maintenance.
- Understanding of relevant health and safety, employment legislation
- Effective problem solving skills and analytical skills
- Competent on Word and Excel
- Act as a keyholder and attend the centre during emergency callout. Must be contactable by telephone and available for callout.
- Excellent oral, numerical, written skills
- Required to work outside normal hours, including evenings, weekends, public holidays with flexibility of location
- Responsible for maintaining all relevant qualifications and attending training sessions as part of normal working arrangements
