On March 31 2009 Southwark Council was awarded funding of £1.45 million to go towards improving the centre. The funding, together with over £2.5m from Southwark's Investing in Leisure programme, will be used to renovate the facility to support the delivery of the free swimming programme designed to increase participation in swimming amongst under 16s and over 60s.

To ensure that the renovation programme remains on schedule it was necessary to close the whole building at Camberwell Leisure Centre from Wednesday November 25 2009. It is due to re-open in the autumn of 2010.

The nearest swimming pool and gym are at Peckham Pulse.

For those of you with Fusion gym/pool memberships these can be used at the Pulse or at any other leisure centre in Southwark.

We apologise for any inconvenience the decision to close earlier than envisaged may cause. We hope customers will understand that it is in order to complete the building work and secure the long-term future of Camberwell Leisure Centre.

Renovation works
