Phase 2 works are on target to be finished 7 June, meaning that Mole Valley residents can enjoy a host of exciting new facilities this summer.

A number of new facilities have been built, including a ground-floor reception area, a ground-floor café bar, a meeting room, first floor male and female gym changing rooms and sauna, steam and therapy rooms. These facilities will service the already completed state of the art gym and studio.

There will be an official opening for the public on the weekend of the 12 and 13 of June, when a range of free fitness sessions and activities will take place.

Councillor David Sharland, Portfolio Holder for Health, Safety & Wellbeing, said: “The completion of Phase 2 is an important milestone in the redevelopment of Leatherhead Leisure Centre. The new facilities will serve Mole Valley residents for many years to come. We are now looking forward to the next phase of development.”

VolkerFitzpatrick, who are carrying out the work, began the £12.6m redevelopment in April 2009. They are now 14 months into the 22 month project, which is on schedule and on budget.

Phase 1 was handed over in October 2009, also on time and on budget. It included a new gym with over 90 stations, an aerobics studio, a soft play area fitted out by House of Play, a crèche, two squash courts and refurbished function rooms. In addition, a new Multi Use Games Area was opened in June 2009.

Phase 3, which is the final stage of the project, will begin at the end of May, when the pool area, changing rooms, clubroom and sports hall will be treated to a facelift.  Regrettably, in order to carry out the refurbishments, the pool will be closed from Tuesday 25 May to December. In the interim period, Leatherhead free swimmers (under 16s and over 60s) can register at Dorking Sports Centre to continue swimming for free.
