Alternative Valentines – free sports sessions at Croydon Leisure Centres

For the ideal Valentine alternative, girls and women in Croydon can take some time out for themselves and join the free taster session taking place across Leisure Centres in the borough.

Thursday 12th February to Wednesday 18th February 2009

If you haven’t set foot in a gym before or want to try something new, as part of the Love 2 programme, women of all ages and abilities are welcome to come along and have a go.

Monks Hill Sports Centre, Purley Pool, South Norwood and Thornton Heath Leisure Centre will be running sessions ranging from Aqua and Ab Attack to Basketball and Baton Twirling.

Verena Trend, Sports and Sommunity Delopment Manager at Fusion Lifestyle in Croydon commented:  “This is the first time we’ve been involved with the Love 2 campaign and it’s very exciting.  We have women who’ve not taken part in any sport or physical activity before, or for whatever reason, never really been interested in sport at school or college, coming along and trying out something different like Self Defence or Trampolining.   The statistics show that girls and women in London are 10% less likely than men to take part in sport and physical activity and this is a chance for them to re-ignite their interest, or find an activity that they like”.

There is something for everyone, with special classes for 11 and 15’s in Dance Aerobics, Youth Boxing and Aqua. For 14 -19 year olds there’s Body Conditioning and Body Combat and over 50s have special classes in Badminton, Socacise and Ab Attack.  This is also a choice of sessions for all ages in Netball, Trampolining, Basketball or Aqua and classes for people with disabilities are also available.
