Art Competition at Surrey Docks Watersports Centre

Southwark is launching an art competition for young photographers and artists with a creative mind to create an individual piece of artwork that might encourage watersports users into the gym and vice versa. The winning designs will each win a £50 prize and the artwork displayed with the artist’s name, framed and on the walls throughout the Surrey Docks Watersports Centre.

Entry categories
There are three categories to enter:

  • Watersports – power of the wind and serenity of the water
  • Gym/Studio – energetic/peaceful group scenes (aerobics, spin, yoga)
  • Enjoying leisure activities in Southwark.

The four age groups are:

  • 5 to 11
  • 12 to 16
  • 17 to 19
  • 20 to 25

The two styles are photography or two dimensional artwork (painting/drawing/collage). We can accept individual or group/classroom entries.

 

How to enter
Please print the entry form (pdf 24kb), complete and attach it to your artwork.

Send your entries to Surrey Docks Watersports Centre Art Competition, Town Hall, Peckham Road, London SE5 8UB.

 

Closing date for entries
The competition closes on Friday September 18 2009, with winners to be announced in October. There will be an open day and prize award ceremony in January 2010.

It is important that you read the full list of terms and conditions of entry (pdf 21kb) before submitting your entry.

 

Prizes
Winners’ entries in each age group will receive a £50 voucher to spend on art materials or other art related goodies. The winners will also have their work on display in the Surrey Docks Watersports Centre with the overall winning entry in the prime position of the entrance of the reception area.

 

Judging
The distinguished judging panel will include Councillor Lewis Robinson, executive member for culture and sports, Southwark Council, renowned local artists and photographers and high profile people involved in the 2012 Olympic Games. A full list will be announced on the Southwark web site shortly.
