Hounslow achieve best ever position in the London Youth Games

Hounslow finished in its best ever position at the London Youth Games on Thursday.

A host of young people from across the borough enjoyed a successful day of sport at the event, which took place at the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre.

 

Young athletes secured medals in judo, archery,athletics, Para Athletics, indoor rowing, kayaking, volleyball and girls´football, with Hounslow finishing in 19th place. Fusions Community Sports Development Team, who managed the sports development across the borough on behalf of the Council, worked closely with local schools,clubs and community partners so that they could take part and be represented in the games. Councillor Samia Chaudhary, Cabinet Member for Green Policy and Leisure,Hounslow Council, was on hand along with Councillor Mukesh Malhotra, Deputy Mayor of Hounslow, to add their support to all the contestants.

The event is Europe´s largest annual youth sporting event where all 33 London borough´s compete against each other in over 30 different sports Councillor Chaudhary said: "Well done to all our young athletes who gave outstanding performances, congratulations on a best ever finish.

"It was fantastic to see so many of our young people taking part in these games and really enjoying their sport.

"Our commitment here at the Council is to encourage and support where we can,the opportunities for our young residents to be able to try different sports and enjoy exercise and activities that will help them lead healthy and happy lives now and for when they are older.

"This is such an eventwhere our young people did all of that and honed their skills in differentsports."
