About Kempston Outdoor Centre
Our Centre is located next to the River Great Ouse in Kempston and features our own climbing wall, high ropes course, and bush craft area. The centre is owned by Bedford Borough Council and managed by Fusion Lifestyle. We are inspected by the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority and are an accredited centre for Learning Outside the Classroom. These are standards for safe and high quality provision for the activities we offer, so you can be sure of a first-rate visit.
As a self-funding centre, we know it is important we provide courses that are exciting, and provide learning opportunities at a competitive price. We are always looking at ways to improve, but we know we are doing things right, as we have groups that come back to us year after year.
All of our courses are none-residential, and range from Birthday Parties, after school clubs, and taster & introductory sessions, to advanced coaching and instructor level qualifications. Each group coming to us gets their own programme of events made to suit their needs and level of adventure. See our Group Visits page for more.
Kempston Outdoor Centre has a rich local history; starting with Copper Harper (a keen paddle sport coach), the centre aimed to deliver outdoor activities to the local community. Over the proceeding years, the centre developed in both its buildings and the equipment it uses. The ethos however has remained the same, the provision of safe, educational adventurous activities to the local and wider communities.
In May 2010, `Bedfordshire Outdoor Adventure´ began the working link between Blue Peris and us. To date the centres share best practise ideas, support staff development and training and share course provision covering the Duke of Edinburgh Award, first aid courses and more. Our centre has gratefully been given funding for improving our facilities over many years. With it, we have built a high ropes course, renovated our meeting room and kitchen areas, built an accessible toilet for disabled clients, and updated our climbing wall.
We are a collection of highly motivated, experienced and well qualified individuals. The staff team combined, hold qualifications to instruct, coach and teach on indoor climbing walls, outdoor crags, mountains, lakes and rivers. Our outdoor skills are supported by various degrees, academic qualifications and real teaching experience across various disciplines and environments in the UK and overseas
