Team Hounslow Volleyball Girls Champions - London Youth Games Volleyball 2017

In our 7th year Team Hounslow Girls had their best ever result at the Under 18 Beatty London Youth Games Volleyball competition by becoming Champions last weekend.

Hounslow girls finished top in their group winning against Brent, Waltham Forest, Newham & Lambeth and then progressed to the quarter finals against Richmond (won 2-0), then Semi-Finals against Tower Hamlets (won 2-0) and then against hot favourites Wandsworth (won 2-0)

Team Hounslow included 8 players from Richmond VB Squad - Selected from Gumley Girls, Green Girls, Chiswick High & London International School.

Sarah Keefe commented: I am so honoured to be Team Hounslow coach for the winning team at London Youth Games. The girls were amazing showing excellent team work, resilience in coming back from way behind, and great ambassadors of volleyball. Thanks to co -coach Ilaria Canevari and even more importantly to David Rijvers, John Goalen and Mike Keefe from Richmond VB.

An action-packed and high octane day of volleyball in East London ended with Hounslow being crowned the 2017 London Youth Games Girls Volleyball champion.

Hounslow girls have been described as consistently impressive though they had been knocked out in the quater finals in the previous two years.

Games got underway just before 10am and the watching crowd were immediately treated to a spectacular display of skill from all teams in the group stages.

In the girls´ event, last year´s gold medallists Westminster were one of three teams to win all their groups games and qualify for the quarter-finals, with 2015 winners Wandsworth, and Kensington and Chelsea also completing the impressive feat.

Westminster and Wandsworth then continued that impressive form in the last eight as they recorded 25-19 wins over Barnet and Newham respectively to set up a mouthwatering semi-final encounter.

After a tough and intense battle it was Wandsworth who emerged victorious, winning 25-16 to set up a final with Hounslow - who had impressively beaten Richmond and then Tower Hamlets in the knockout stages - and ensure the gold medal would not be returning to Westminster.

But, against the odds, it was Hounslow who emerged victorious 25-20-25-21, the win secured in spectacular style with an emphatic spike to end a superb day in the best possible fashion.

Congratulations to all the medallists and well done to everybody that took part.
