Quayside Leisure Centre Set To Host Mammoth Table Tennis Challenge To Raise Funds For Comic Relief

QUAYSIDE LEISURE CENTRE SET TO HOST MAMMOTH TABLE TENNIS CHALLENGE TO RAISE FUNDS FOR COMIC RELIEF

Get your bats match ready! Quayside Leisure Centre, Kingsbridge, is inviting the public to take part in its monumental 10-hour continuous table tennis challenge to help raise money for Comic Relief. Taking place on Friday 24 March, committed leisure centre member and `Welsh Wizard´, Howard Smith, is set to face the public as he battles to play continuously from 11am-9pm.

Quayside Leisure Centre members, local schools, as well as avid table tennis players will have the chance to test their skills against the Welsh Wizard over three heats in 10 minutes, with the loser donating any amount they choose to Comic Relief. Those interested can book their slot at the Leisure Centre´s reception, with six slots available every hour.

There will also be a bake sale in the leisure centre´s reception area, providing sweet treats to both participants and those watching the table tennis action unfold throughout the day. Quayside staff will also be dressed in red to enter the Comic Relief spirit.

The table tennis challenge will be the first major event in the centre´s calendar, since it was taken over by leading UK charity, Fusion Lifestyle. As the largest independent charity, operating community sports, fitness and leisure centres in the country, it is known for bringing quality and investment to the facilities it operates, with Quayside being one of six centres it now manages across the county.

Howard Smith, Quayside Leisure Centre Member said: "The table tennis marathon will certainly be a challenge, but I also want to use it as an opportunity to share the joys of the game with a younger generation and those who just want to give it a go - all for a very worthy cause. Hopefully I will be put through my paces and win a few rounds, otherwise it will certainly be an expensive day for me!

"On a more serious note, it is a chance for people to have fun while raising funds for those in desperate need. All donations are welcome and will certainly go a long way in helping to change people´s lives for the better."
