The Mini Marathon is a 5km race that takes place over the last 5km of the actual London Marathon course, finishing in The Mall only minutes before the elite runners begin to come through to finish.
To run and represent the London Borough of Hounslow, you must be aged 11-17yrs and go to school or live in the borough. If you meet these criteria then all you have to do is pick up a mini marathon leaflet and application form, have it signed by your parent and guardian and send it back to the Sports and Community Development Team.
You will then receive information about the trials. At the trials, if you finish in the top 8 of your age category you will be invited to come to London on the day of the Marathon to compete against other competitors from the 32 London Borough’s and 13 other teams from across the UK.
The Trials
Hounslow’s Mini Marathon Trials and Fun Run happen in February at Lampton Sports Centre in Hounslow. The course itself encompasses 2 laps of Lampton Park.
The Mini Marathon
The Mini Marathon happens on the same day as the London Marathon. Runners travel to Central London in the morning to take part in the Mini-Marathon. The top 3 times in each age group receive bronze, silver or gold medals and every runner that finishes receives a goody bag and finisher’s medal. After the event the results are published in the Evening Standard and a booklet of results are sent out to each individual runner.
