More than 300 youngsters literally got their skates on as Redlees Park in Isleworth hosted the 2008 Urban Games. For the fifth year the free multi-sport event took place in Redlees Park, Worton Road, and Isleworth Recreation Centre, in Twickenham Road.
Children aged under 15 enjoyed a range of free sports taster sessions including athletics, rugby, BMX racing, canoeing and hockey. The organisers hope the event encouraged self motivation and general willingness to participate in sport outside of school hours.
The event was organised by Hounslow’s Community Sports Development Team, with the mayor of Hounslow and various councillors attending. Councillor Lin Davies, lead member for families said;” I was thrilled to see the youngsters enjoying taking part in the games.
Sport is incredibly important for children’s development. It builds teamwork skills, fitness and is also known to improve performance at school. I sincerely hope the children involved in the weekends event, especially those who weren’t particularly sporty before, have a new appreciation for physical activity and team sports.”
