The nation’s elite sportsmen and women have joined forces with PRO-ACTIVE West London in a unique collaboration to help raise funds for local sports clubs as well as help the nation’s sporting fortunes.

The Elite Club Initiative, pioneered by the British Athlete’s Commission (BAC), the representative body of the nation’s Olympic and Paralympic competitors, is designed to enable local sports clubs to use this association with the nation’s elite athletes to generate funds to help nurture the new wave of sporting stars.

The scheme is open to any local sports club, who simply encourage members and their friends to make a donation through the nation-wide ‘Adopt Your Athletes’ scheme which is encouraging those with local families to forge a direct link with the nation’s elite athletes.

All supporting individuals will receive a thank you email plus a photo certificate signed personally by an athlete, as well as updates throughout the following year on the progress of the nation’s elite sportsmen and women. When making a donation, you will be prompted to nominate a local sports club, and all registered clubs receive £5 per donation made in their name.

The British Athlete’s Commission works to make sure that the athletes’ voices are heard and offers a pathway to pursue and resolve issues they face. By adopting the athletes you will be directly supporting them in the run-up to 2012.

Zac Purchase, Rowing Olympic Gold Medallist at Beijing, says: “We are all very proud to be able to represent our country in our disciplines but when faced with injury or legal issues we have very little support. The BAC offers us a safety net and we incredibly grateful to all those that support us, especially with 2012 on the horizon.”
