Lord Mayors Mile
London Borough of Hounslow's young runners put in an impressive performance on Saturday 14th November. Along with some of the best young runners in London, they took part in a one mile race around a loop from Mansion House to St Paul's ahead of the procession in the 2009 Lord Mayor's Show.
Each London Borough sent a team of 12 hand-picked runners, and the race took them down the packed streets ahead of the Lord Mayor's procession.
The boys and girls are each split into three age groups, making six races altogether:
- Boys 15 -17yrs (Yellow T-shirts)
- Boys 13 - 14yrs (Black T- shirts)
- Boys 11 - 12yrs (Green T-shirts)
- Girls 15 - 17yrs (Blue T-shirts)
- Girls 13 - 14yrs (White T-shirts)
- Girls 11 - 12yrs (Red T- shirts)
The first race was started at 10.53 precisely by the Lord Mayor Elect, Nick Anstee, who is himself a very keen runner and has completed several London Marathons.
Hounslow's young runners put in some excellent performances getting top four placings in four of the six races! Bradley Goater set the standards for the team coming in fourth in the first race, the Boys 15 - 17yrs, whilst Jack Killip finished an amazing second place in the Boys 13 - 14yrs race and not wanting to be out done Jivendra Singh came third in the Boys 11 - 12yrs race.
Making sure that the girls also made their mark and making it a great family day out for the Killips, Jack's sister Rebecca came third in the Girls 11 - 12yrs race. All four runners are coached by Noel Stoddart from St Marys Athletics Club.
Hopefully these young stars can reproduce these great performances in the trials to select Hounslow's Team for the Virgin Mini London Marathon, taking place on Saturday 6th February 2010 at Lampton Sports Centre.
