New Hubs Approved

redevelopment scale model of isleworth recreation centre

Gym and library users will be able to enjoy their workouts or escape into a book in an improved environment after two new ‘leisure hubs' were given the go-ahead by local councillors. The new hubs at Isleworth Recreation Centre and Feltham Airparcs will see sports centres, pools, libraries, and childcare brought together under one roof at each of the sites, alongside new cafes and community spaces.

The hubs are the latest in a series of improvements to local leisure facilities that includes the redevelopment of both Brentford Fountain leisure centre and New Chiswick Pool, and a £5.2 million investment in six other libraries across the borough.

Councillor (Cllr) Stewart said: "Bringing leisure and library services together on one site, with community facilities, cafes and social areas, means people will have a variety of spaces to enjoy whatever leisure activities suit them.

"The borough’s leisure centres and libraries have been crying out for redevelopment for years, and people have told us they want to see them improved.

“This is why we made a promise to invest an additional £2 million to improve the borough's parks, libraries and leisure facilities this year.”

The plans will see a new entrance and reception area built at Feltham Airparcs alongside a crèche and large cafe, which will open onto a newly landscaped courtyard. Hanworth library will be moved into purpose-built facilities on the site.

The changing area for the pool will be refurbished with better facilities for families and groups. Stairs and a new lift will lead to a gym with two exercise studios, and the tennis courts will be reinstated and provided with flood lighting, and two of these will have multisport surfaces.

Isleworth Recreation Centre will have a new entrance built at the front to provide a link with the neighbouring library building. It will also provide an entrance to Redlees Park, and include a new cafe and crèche.

The swimming pool will have its original glazed facade reinstated, allowing natural light into the pool hall and providing swimmers with views of Redlees Park. Changing facilities will be refurbished to offer improved facilities for families and groups. A larger state-of-the-art gym is proposed with a new exercise studio. The surrounding will be landscaped the existing multi-use sports pitches will be resurfaced.
