The leisure centre at New Addington will re-open its doors to the public on July 16th following a three month closure for plant maintenance and refurbishment work. To celebrate its makeover the centre will be holding an open weekend on Sat 17 and Sun 18th July, for anyone to drop in and make free use of the gym, pool and activity area.

“The refurbishment has been completed in good time and we’re delighted to be back in business for the summer season,” said Lewis Harvey, General Manager of the leisure centre.

Regular users will notice quite a difference. New floors in the activity studies, the poolside has been painted, brand new changing rooms and cubicles, locks and showers make the facilities more comfortable to use. 

"It looks almost new", says Lewis.  "A major investment has been made in the pool plant which people don’t see, but it means the water temperature in the pool can be kept constant and the changing rooms will be warm for the early swimmers which are major improvements”. 

The centre is very popular and is a key community facility with a loyal group of regular users, families and youngsters learning to swim. The team has been busy with the fast track refurbishment project and also planning the Open Weekend.

As well as free entry for swimming, use of the gym and studio, there'll be an inflatable session in the pool and the local brass band will be making a big noise from 10am-12pm. 

While gym sessions are free it's recommended people book a slot for the gym group inductions with a fitness instructor who will take you round the gym and explain the difference exercise machines and how to use them.  

“It’s brilliant to see the leisure centre brought back to life. We’d like to thank the local community for their patience over the last few months and look forward to welcoming them back”, added Lewis. “We think the wait has been worth it”
