Hillingdon athletes given a coaching masterclass
Former Olympic gold medalist Sally Gunnell was the star attraction at Hillingdon Sports & Leisure Complex for a week-long Hillingdon training camp aimed at getting more youngsters involved in athletics.
Gunnell was joined by Great Britain 400m star Tim Benjamin and Commonwealth gold-medal winning triple jumper Larry Achike as the trio put athletes aged eight to 18 through their paces in a range of track and field sports at Hillingdon Sports and Leisure Complex.
The youngsters enjoyed training twice a day with the stars before the fifth and final day, which was the event's mini-Olympics.
Gunnell who grabbed Olympic gold at Barcelona in 1992 in the 400m hurdles, presented the awards and also took part in a question and answer session.
Rodger Hughes, whose company Performance Running organised the event, said: “We had everyone from beginners right through to junior international athletes attend. They came from across the country and we even had two kids who came from Egypt. They all found out what it is like to be a top athlete for a week.”
