Cardboard box to signify Homelessness

Hillingdon Athletics Stadium and Trinity Homeless Project invite you to spend a night under cardboard and under the stars to raise money for those suffering homelessness.

SleepOut on Friday 4th December 2009

Are you up for the challenge?

Background
It’s a classic image sleeping rough in a cardboard box.

As a symbol of homelessness you can’t do much better. However, it’s not the case for everybody who is without a place to live. Some use bus shelters, old pipes, sheds in church yards, in fact, anywhere to bring some shelter from the elements and some sense of security.

The Big SleepOut has two functions.

Firstly, it allows you to experience a night of discomfort, cold, and relative insecurity to experience first hand one facet of what it is to suffer the effects of homelessness. In doing this you will have the opportunity to consider how life is for the hundreds of thousands of people who live like this, every day, in this country. It will be an experience that will ensure that you don’t view homelessness in the same way again.

The second function of The Big SleepOut is to raise money for Trinity. We helped 150 people last year through supported housing, training and employment giving opportunities to those suffering the effects of homelessness in Hillingdon and Hounslow to bring lasting change and transformation in their lives. However, we had to turn 400 people away.

We want to help more people and we want to offer more training, more homes and more employment opportunities. By taking part in The Big SleepOut, you will collect sponsorship money which will go towards helping more people to get out of the
revolving door of homelessness and back into independent meaningful lives.

The event itself is being held at Hillingdon Athletics Stadium and will be a lot of fun with games, entertainment as well as presentations from exhomeless people.

If you or a group of you would like to take part, please email at the address below.

Also, we would like youth groups and organisations, companies, church groups etc to all get involved.

This really is a great opportunity to help those suffering the effects of homelessness
in your community.
