Work has now started on a range of improvements at Blackbird Leys Leisure Centre which include a new cycling spin studio, improved changing facilities and a new reception area.

Blackbird Leys is already a popular centre with a well equipped air conditioned gym, large sports hall, fitness studios running various dance and exercise classes such as pilates, pure step, aerobics and circuits.

The leisure centre also offers community rooms, a crèche and a café. It also offers a full children’s summer holiday activity programme.

Councillor Bob Timbs, Board Member for Leisure Partnerships, says: “I am pleased that we are carrying out improvement work at Blackbird Leys Leisure Centre.

“The improvements will really enhance the whole centre and provide a better facility for residents.”
 
Robert Wood, General Manager of Blackbird Leys Leisure Centre, says: “As well as the local community we have a number of successful clubs and groups coming here, such as KC’s School of Dance, Oxford School of Jujitsu, Leys Youth Programme and many others.

With the new spin studio and the upgrades to the changing areas, we hope to attract even more of the local community to visit the centre and try some of our activities.
 
“There are plans of the improvements in the temporary reception area and anyone is welcome to come in and have a look at what we are doing.”
 
During the work there will be some minimal disruption within the centre but the Centre will remain open as usual.
 
The development has been funded from the savings created from transferring the management of leisure facilities in partnership with Fusion Lifestyle. Works are to be completed by the end of September.
