Oxford swimmers needed to support León water project
The Oxford León Association will be holding a sponsored swim at the Hinksey Outdoor Pool in aid of a much needed development near León, Oxford’s twin town in Nicaragua.
The association is aiming to raise £2,000 towards the cost of building a well and water storage facility in Aqua Fria, a village near Leon. The project has been proposed by a charity based in Leon, ‘Las Esperanzas’. A water engineer working for them will oversee the project, working with local villagers who will do the labouring.
Jane Mercer, one of the organisers said: ‘We’re hoping for a really good turnout and anyone interested in joining in can contact Jan Marshall or myself for a swim pack with the fundraising information.
“You can swim as many or as few lengths as you like so we’re really hoping people will register and enjoy a swim in the beautiful outdoor pool whilst raising money for this really important project”.
Fusion, who manage the pool on behalf of Oxford City Council, has waived the entry fee for participating swimmers and is assisting with arrangements and all the money raised will go directly to the Leon project.
The swim takes place from 4.30 - 7.30 pm on Monday 5 July at Hinksey Pool, Abingdon Road, Oxford
Adults and children aged 8 and over are welcome to participate, if you would like to take part in the swim and support this great cause please contact either:
