Work has started on the exciting new development at Barton Pool. The development includes a new gym, improved changing facilities and a new reception for the four-year-old facility

It already has a state of the art pool and once this new work is completed it will mean that it will be one of the best wellbeing facilities in the city

Councillor Mark Lygo, Board Member for Sport, Play & Sport Liaison, says: “This is an exciting time for residents as we start to build them an improved facility.

“We carried out consultation to find out what people wanted at Barton Pool. Our leisure centres have long been in need of redevelopment, which is why we made a commitment to invest at Barton Pool.

“I hope that people from across the city including residents from Barton, Headington and Risinghurst, will enjoy this new and improved facility when it is completed.”

David Hunt, General Manager of Barton Pool, says: “The addition of the new gym will complete the final stage in providing Barton and the wider community with a superb modern leisure centre.

“The whole community will soon have access to affordable facilities you would normally only expect to find in expensive private clubs.”

During the work there will be some minimal disruption within the centre but all activities and the facility will remain open as usual.

The development has been funded from the savings created from transferring the management of leisure facilities in partnership with Fusion Lifestyle.

It is due to be completed by the end of October.
