Athletics and Cricket Success for Hounslow Teens

Team Hounslow's Tyra Khambai-Anna from The Bishop Wand Church of England School became the first Team Hounslow athlete to win a national title after winning the under 15 girls 60 m in Sheffield. Showing her dominance from the first round, Tyra went into the final as the favourite and didn't let herself down, flying out of the blocks and despite as mall stumble was able to run clear of the field and claim the gold medal in a time of 7.82. 

Tyra now aims to add the Middlesex title to her already impressive indoor C.V; she's already South of England champion. Tyra joined Team Hounslow AC 2 years ago after be spotted by her coach Jonathan Barbour at a schools sports hall athletics event.  

After the medal presentation, Tyra said ' I was a little nervous coming into this competition as I had a injury which meant I was unable to train properly for 3 weeks after winning the London Games. I would like to thank my coach Jonathan and my mum for helping me win this medal. Tyra is part of the Speed Development Academy based at Osterley Sports and Athletics Centre, and is a member of Team Hounslow A.C.

Fusion Sports Development officer Jonathan Barbour said 'we came up to Sheffield with one objective and I'm really pleased for Tyra as she really wanted to win this title."

Hounslow's male cricketers came through their qualifying group for the London Youth Games Finals undefeated, during the first round of qualifying last Saturday 5th February. Raking up an impressive total of 284 runs and only conceding 63 overthe 3 matches, the Hounslow team progressed to the finals which were held at Lord's cricket ground on Sunday 25th February.

In the final the boys came upagainst a very strong Southwark team and unfortunately lost the first match and finished 5th out of the 6 teams contesting the final. 

All London Youth Games competitions accumulate points which provide the borough with a total score at the end of the summer season. This great result at the cricket along with the cross country results has helped Hounslow's chances of again finishing in the top 20.
