Carry on reading to learn how to get started!

1. Be specific and realistic

Firstly, think about what is it that you want to achieve, and when do you want to achieve it? Make sure you keep in mind your personal capabilities, everybody is different! Start your plan with smaller, achievable steps initially so that there is more chance that you'll stick to it and succeed, then gradually increase the effort as time progresses.

Try not to be vague, for example, instead of your pledge simply being 'to lose weight', change this to be 'I want to lose 1 stone by the 1st December, by exercising 3 mornings per week at 7:00am on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. With the aim to lose 1lb per week and 4-5lbs per month'.

2. Make your Pledge

Have a think and decide what you would like your pledge to be using the format below, then once you have it finalised, you can submit it here.

Your Pledge: "I pledge................................"

Activity:.........................................................

Duration/Intensity:......................................

Day(s):...........................................................

Time:.............................................................

Location:.......................................................

Why?:............................................................

3. Reverse engineer your pledge

Clearly set out the steps that are required for you to complete your Pledge, for example, Step 1..., Step 2..., Step 3...

Try and keep your step-by-step plan simple and coherent, if you start to make it too complicated and unrealistic, you may not have as much drive and motivation to stick to it.

To gain a deeper level of understanding as to what is making you want to achieve your pledge, ask this question to yourself. Perhaps even note it down if you think it will help.

Why do you want to achieve your pledge?.......................

Now, take a minute to think of a deeper insight - what is the root reason behind your Pledge? This may be something very personal that you wouldn't normally tell someone or admit out loud, but that's OK! Use this reason to fuel your drive towards reaching your goal. Whenever you're feeling unmotivated, refer back to this thought process.

4. Visualise succeeding!

How will you feel once you've achieved your Pledge? Take a moment (close your eyes if you find this helps), and see yourself completing each step on your plan, being disciplined and doing what you've noted in the time frame - even on those days when you don't feel like it.

Remember to have belief in your ability, you can achieve what you set your mind to! There may be an occasional backward step, but this is completely normal and understandable. Once you register your pledge, our team will keep in contact with you to see how you're getting on, and we will also send through useful tips and tricks to keep you motivated and on the right track.

Visualise yourself achieving your goal and being victorious, how do you feel? How do you look? Are you standing confidently with a positive outlook? Tell yourself you have what it takes and you will succeed!
