This weekend saw the Mayor of Hounslow, Councillor Samia Chaudhary, visit Hanworth Air Park Leisure Centre to celebrate the official opening of the stunning new pools and gym following an £1.3m refurbishment. She was also joined by Councillor Steve Curran, Leader of Hounslow Council, ward members for Hanworth, Councillor Candice Atterton and Councillor Richard Foote, and ward member for Hanworth Park Councillor Puneet Grewal.
The grand opening celebrations on Saturday 12 January included something for everyone no matter what their age. The fun packed schedule featured gym taster sessions, health assessments, a colouring competition, a spin challenge plus a float frenzy session in the pool!
Hanworth Air Park Leisure Centre received a significant £1.3m investment with a major makeover of all swimming pools and flume, redecoration to changing rooms and showers, as well as a £400k upgrade for the gym. Swimming fans can now enjoy upgraded pools including a new tiled surround and pool surface in the main pool and new starter blocks for competitive swimming. The pool hall has been redecorated with special non-slip flooring in the balcony area with new lights above the pools. The flume pool is now transformed to a learner pool with increased capacity for swimming lessons and the teaching pool has also been refurbished.
The upgraded gym now offers 35 new pieces of cardiovascular equipment including new treadmills, bikes, rowers, zero runners and cross trainers, as well as 22 new fixed resistance machines, plus free weight and functional equipment, including a training rig, slam balls, kettle bells and olympic rings and tyres.
Councillor Samia Chaudhary, Mayor of Hounslow, said: "I was delighted to be joined by the Leader of the Council, Cllr Steve Curran and other Ward Councillor's to the reopening of Hanworth Air Park Leisure Centre. It was great to see so many residents at the opening and to be told by residents that we met how pleased they are to see the changes with thanks to Fusion who manage the centre on behalf of the Council. The revamp will provide local residents with a new and modern facility that will better meet their needs and encourage them to become healthier and enjoy exercising, especially young people. We must encourage taking up sport and fitness activities at an early age to combat obesity, coronary heart diseases and diabetes, to name but a few. There's something for everyone so I encourage all residents to take up the challenge."
Anthony Cawley, Operations Director at Fusion Lifestyle, commented: "We're delighted the investment works at Hanworth Air Park Leisure Centre are complete. We'd like to thank all members and visitors to the centre for their patience while the work was undertaken, and we look forward to welcoming them in to enjoy the facilities. The London Borough of Hounslow and Fusion Lifestyle are committed to providing top quality services to the public and hope they agree that the improved centre offers something for everyone."
