Haringey Cardiac and Stroke Rehabilitation Programme Restarts

We're on a mission to improve the fitness of vulnerable residents

We've welcomed back our Cardiac and Stroke rehabilitation programme designed to help improve the fitness of vulnerable Haringey residents following a cardiac event or stroke.

The programme was first started in 2013 but has been paused since March 2020 due to lockdown with many of the programme's participants shielding during the peak of the pandemic.

The programme sees patients referred by Haringey health professionals take part in carefully monitored fitness programmes at leisure facilities across the borough, in a bid to help them get active in a safe and controlled way.  The aim is to improve the fitness of participants and help them avoid further illness.

Gareth Heard, our Sport and Community Development Manager in Haringey, commented: "We're delighted that we have been able to restart this programme.  It's more important than ever that we help protect vulnerable members of the community and our fitness experts, under the guidance of medical professionals, are really well placed to make a genuine difference to participants lives."

Cllr Mike Hakata, the Deputy Leader of Haringey Council and Cabinet Member for Environment, Transport and the Climate Emergency, said: "Getting these classes running again is a really positive step for some of Haringey's most vulnerable residents, improving their health and fitness and helping them recover both physically and mentally."

Classes will take place at Park Road Pools & Fitness and Tottenham Green Leisure Centre.  Those interested in participating should approach their doctor or other health care professionals to request a referral for the scheme.

The classes will be operating in line with new government guidelines and alongside meticulous cleaning routines throughout the centres to ensure classes are safe for all attendees.
