Cold water swimming tips

As you may know, we're opening Shepton Mallet Lido slightly earlier this year for a non-heated few weeks, for all you cold water lovers!

If you're new to cold water swimming and want to give it a go then here are some useful tips to start your cold water swimming journey:

- Enter the water gently, it allows your body temperature to cool slower.

- Don't push yourself too hard, start with short sessions in the water. At first, even a few minutes is ok. Gradually work up towards longer lengths as your body gets used to the temperature.

- Concentrate on your breathing, cold water shocks the body, resulting in breathing quicker, Inhale deeply through your nose and slowly out of your mouth, this will calm your body. 

- Warm up and reward yourself with a hot drink after your swim.
